In 2017 Grand Republic released “Tourist Trophy,” a full-length recording of songs that started in mid-2015 around the same time as the first EP. A few months later, John and Troy began recording more songs, which eventually sat waiting to be completed while the band continued experimenting with songwriting styles and influences. The project stalled.

Over the months which became years, the new music sometimes reflected the sense of dread and anger we felt seeing the world fall apart. This short EP is best described as a set of noisy pieces that ironically reflect what our namesake is not: a “grand republic.”

Grand Republic was never meant to represent anything political in terms of the USA or the real world. It was, naively, our try at a non-political fantasy world, in which our band had a name that represented something massive and important. Typical late night after-practice band banter. Ah, the good old rock days.

We now acknowledge and own the irony of the name. To us, Grand Republic is still just a fantasy, though in this version of the graphic novel, based loosely on the current real world, something is about to go down.
